Mission Kakatiya, launched by the Telangana government in 2015, aims to rejuvenate over 46,000 minor irrigation tanks across the state, drawing inspiration from the historical practices of the Kakatiya dynasty. The initiative has led to significant improvements, including a 78.5% increase in household agricultural income in tank ayacut areas, enhanced groundwater levels, and a 36%–39% rise in fish yields. Additionally, desiltation efforts have reduced artificial fertilizer usage by 36%, contributing to better water quality and ecosystem revival. Despite these successes, challenges such as ensuring equitable water distribution and maintaining community participation persist, necessitating ongoing efforts for sustainable water management.
