The national lockdowns initiated in response to the COVID-19 pandemic raised concerns over their political and economic implications, prompting state governments to cautiously navigate subsequent surges. While past lockdowns were deemed ineffective, new approaches emphasizing limited movements and micro containment zones emerged. However, the virulence of the virus necessitated ongoing innovation in pandemic management. This paper argues that lockdowns, while a temporary solution, underscore systemic failures in healthcare infrastructure and governance. Lives lost due to inadequate resources highlight the urgent need for comprehensive healthcare reforms. The economic repercussions of lockdowns further exacerbate inequalities, particularly affecting the poor. Moving forward, governments must prioritize holistic strategies to combat the pandemic and bolster healthcare systems, recognizing the long-term impact on both public health and economic stability.
